This is a good summary picture of various types of pyramids. Can you locate the countries on the map?

This shows the progression from a TRIANGLE shape pyramid to a BEEHIVE shape pyramid. Recall the newspaper article on Singapore's population pyramid in the 1970s vs 2009. See the similiarities?
Also note how this pyramid shows the % which is the proportion of that age group.

The first pyramid shows 1980, note the different age group denoted by the colours. As the age group shifts 'upwards' in 10 years, (second pyramid in 1990), note how the SHAPE changes!
This pyramid is different from the examples we have studied. Read the title, it is divided into 'Males' and 'Females'. So basically they have split it up according to the gender. This 2 pyramid compares the time pyramid of 1975 vs 2005. So dont get yourself confused!
Also note the changes in the number of people (both males and females) from 1975 and 2005. Notice that the number increases? Recall the definition of 'Life expectancy', hence this means that life expectancy increases...

Last one, dont you think this shape is interesting? It combines the 2 pyramids together. Can you see that the young population are sort of 'Beehived shape' and the working and old population are 'Triangle shape'?
What do you think this means?
If you have the correct answer, tell me in class, and you will get a mystery gift from me.
